Citizen Advisory Commissions PDF Print E-mail

Citizen Commissions are an excellent entry point to municipal government and allow a person to participate in decision-making and learn about their city. These commissions are fact-finding and policy-recommending bodies that report their conclusions to the City Council, who then take action on projects investigated for them.

Generally, commissions meet once a month and vacancies occur at year-end. The cities will post these openings and request interested citizens fill out an application, usually before early December. The City Council will review your resume and select applicants. Some will keep your application to use for candidate solicitation in the event of a resignation.

Following are some web links that point to city sites that explain Commission duties, membership and vacancies. Remember that web resources may change over time. If you find any that are no longer current, please send a note via Contact Us. Good luck on your appointment!
